Welcome to Orion’s Left Foot !
A slow blog where I share my reflections on ecopsychology, plant intelligence, and the connections that unite us to the ecology of the invisible through dreams and myths.
In short, a space entirely dedicated to Animism, for those who sometimes glimpse another world.
"At a very deep level, the human psyche is grafted to the planet in which we evolve, and there is what I call an ecological unconscious. Whenever we invoke the depth of the unconscious, what we're essentially doing is pursuing a philosophical discussion of human nature" - Theodore Roszak
Who am I?
Kaixo! I'm Karlota, a professional gardener, living in the beautiful region of Asturias in northern Spain. There was a time when I dedicated myself fully to Tarot reading, as well as sharing my research and knowledge on green magic & folk witchcraft.
A former student of Anthropology specializing in Ethnobotany, I've always been a passionate researcher on explanations for the whys and hows of the relationship between humans and the invisible world, particularly beliefs surrounding plants. Today, I want to dedicate this space to this intimate connection and my discoveries on the subject, and find all the wood weirdoes on the web, to exchange in a safer place than social media.
What is Orion’s Left Foot ?
I don't know about you, but personally I find the internet far too noisy. After almost seven years spent sharing and compulsively consuming content on Instagram, I saw my mental health gradually worsen, and my creativity under the yoke of an algorithm that was increasingly surreal and unattainable, in addition to being drowned in content that was increasingly poor and devoid of meaning.
So I made the decision to leave Instagram in 2023, and... surprise! I rediscovered my desire to write, to read, and especially to share it with you. But to do this, I need a safe space. A space without injunctions, without algorithms, without pressure! A place where we come for pleasure, with time, and with the desire to READ. With the desire to discover, to be moved, to marvel and to learn, to come out with eyes full of questions, and levae with an expanded soul.
This algorithm-free space allows me to truly connect with you, and with myself. Today, it's in this space that I would like to share with you my research, musings, and personal experiences that suround the animist question, but also a bit of my daily life, here in the beautiful Celtic lands of Asturias.
I want to talk to you about the history of magico-spiritual beliefs and their modern, political, social, and cultural implications, about folklore still very much alive in our towns and villages, about ecopsychology, plant intelligence and the connections that form the ecosystem of the invisible through which we meet in dreams, and which we can decipher through the arcana of Tarot. But also about wild foraging and my walks and travels from time to time !
All of this, delivered, fresh out of the oven, straight to your inbox.
This blog is for you if...
You love books and reading, reading, reading! (Warning! here, no pre-chewed content or big secrets summarized in two minutes! I will write you letters, essays and ancient tales... and to make it accessible, it will also be in audio format ! )
